Shopify Headless Development

Break Free From Theme Limits, Without Leaving Shopify.

We build custom storefronts on Hydrogen or Next.js, connected to Shopify’s Storefront API, for sub-second load times and complete design freedom, while Shopify still handles your checkout, inventory, and orders exactly as it does today.

intro

what is shopify headless development?

Headless commerce separates your storefront, the part customers see and interact with, from Shopify’s backend, the part that handles checkout, inventory, and orders. A custom frontend, built on Hydrogen or Next.js, pulls your product data through Shopify’s Storefront API, while Shopify keeps running everything underneath it.

The difference from a theme is control. A theme constrains you to what Liquid and app blocks allow. Headless gives you a blank canvas, any layout, any interaction, any framework, with Shopify’s commerce engine still doing the heavy lifting behind it.

Custom Frontend

Big campaigns or flash sales mean crossed fingers instead of confidence your store will hold up.

Shopify Backend, Unchanged

You need custom logic, bundles, gifting rules, or BOGO, and the default checkout won’t bend to fit.

Omnichannel Delivery

B2B orders come in over email instead of through a real portal with tiered pricing and net terms.

Storefront API Integration

New regions or currencies need a store built to handle them, not a patchwork of workaround apps.
How It's Connected

One Backend, Any Frontend

what's included?

Everything a Headless Build Requires

A headless project is more than a frontend rewrite. Here’s the full scope of what has to come together.

Custom Frontend Development

Our team works exclusively with Shopify Plus, building stable, scalable stores shaped for fast performance and long-term growth needs.

Storefront API Integration

We craft clean, optimized architecture that loads quickly, reduces friction, and supports high-volume demand during peak activity.

Performance Optimization

Every decision is guided by analytics and behaviour insights, helping refine layouts, improve flow, and strengthen your conversion path.

Omnichannel Expansion

The same Shopify catalog and cart logic extended to a mobile app, kiosk, or marketplace listing, without duplicating product data anywhere.

How we work?

Our Shopify Headless Process

A fixed six-step process so architecture, integration, and performance all get equal attention.

1. Discovery & architecture planning

We map your data model, channels, and design requirements, and decide on Hydrogen vs Next.js before any code is written.

2. API & data modeling

Storefront API queries are mapped against your catalog structure, variants, metafields, and collections included.

3. Frontend development

The custom storefront is built component by component, matched to your design files and tested in a live sandbox weekly.

4. Backend integration & testing

Cart, checkout handoff, and account flows are connected and tested end to end against a real Shopify store.

5. Performance optimization

Caching, image delivery, and rendering strategy are tuned until every page hits target Lighthouse scores, not just the homepage

6. Launch & monitoring

The storefront goes live, and we monitor performance and API errors closely for the first weeks after launch.

How It's Built?

Shopify Plus development, layer by layer

Every store we ship is engineered in five connected layers, so nothing is duct-taped together after launch.

The Guarantee

Headless Without the Usual Risks

zero checkout risk

Checkout, payments, and fraud protection stay entirely on Shopify. Going headless changes your frontend, not your compliance surface.

Zero Admin Disruption

Your team keeps managing products, inventory, and orders in the exact same Shopify admin they already know.

Zero Vendor Lock-In

The frontend codebase is yours, clean, documented, and portable, not hidden behind a proprietary page builder.
why work with me?

how can I help you?

Headless projects fail over the same handful of things, an API integration that quietly breaks, a caching layer that isn’t tuned, a checkout handoff nobody tested end to end. I personally review every one of these before launch.

What is Shopify headless development?
Headless development separates your storefront (what customers see) from Shopify’s backend (checkout, inventory, orders). A custom frontend, built on Hydrogen or Next.js, pulls data through Shopify’s Storefront API, while Shopify still handles checkout, payments, and order management.
Yes. Headless changes the frontend, not the backend. Checkout, payments, taxes, and fraud protection all stay on Shopify exactly as they are, so you keep every compliance and security guarantee that comes with it.
Not always. Headless makes the most sense once you’re hitting real theme limitations, custom UX requirements, multi-channel delivery, or performance ceilings a standard theme can’t clear. For most smaller catalogs, custom theme development gets you there without the added complexity.
Most headless builds we ship land in the 90-100 range on Google Lighthouse, versus 40-70 for a typical app-heavy Shopify theme, translating to load times under a second on most pages.
Primarily Shopify’s own Hydrogen framework or Next.js, both connected through the Storefront API and GraphQL, depending on your hosting preferences and existing tech stack.
A standard headless storefront typically takes 8 to 12 weeks. Multi-channel builds, custom checkout extensions, or complex catalog logic can run 14 weeks or more.
Headless builds typically start at $15,000 for a standard storefront, and range to $50,000+ for multi-channel builds with custom integrations and omnichannel delivery.
Yes. Product and inventory management stays entirely in Shopify admin. For page content, we typically connect a headless CMS so non-technical team members can update copy and layout without touching code.
No for most builds, though Plus unlocks Storefront API rate limits and Checkout customization options that matter for high-traffic or highly custom checkout requirements.
Every build includes a post-launch monitoring window covering performance regressions, API errors, and deployment issues, with an ongoing support plan available for continued feature development.
